Company mission

To change children’s life stories through the joy of reading.

Our take

A slightly alarming one in four children are currently unable to read properly by the time they start secondary school at age 11. The lack in literary skills fuels a whole host of issues as children move through education and even into adulthood.

The Bookmark Reading Charity is a non-profit organisation looking to help combat this growing problem by raising the reading standards of children in primary schools. The charity hosts a plethora of initiatives, namely its 1-1 volunteer reading support sessions and collaborations with schools to cultivate a happy and comprehensive reading culture.

At the end of 2023, Bookmark boasted 157 active school partnerships and over 2000 volunteers for its 1-1 sessions programme. A recent promotion of Emily Jack from Head of Schools to CEO is likely to bring a refreshing outlook toward new adventures for the 2018 founded company. The charity looks set to continue to expand its reach, back by its positive feedback from schools and teachers.
