Company mission

Bother's mission is to save people and the planet from the inefficiencies of household shopping. Bother helps the customer save time, money, carbon and waste with each purchase.

61% employee growth in 12 months

Our take

The average UK household spends over 18 hours every month on grocery shopping. In addition, travel (not including flights) is the largest carbon footprint in the average UK home, and 19% of that is journeying to and from the shops. Bother want to make a proactive long-term impact on the way we all shop.

In line with their slogan, "We Bother, so you don't have to”, Bother delivers the annoying-to-carry, bulky but necessary stuff, from toilet rolls to teabags, in a way that saves everyone time and money with the added benefits of free delivery and no subscription.

Their technology learns with each shop and predicts how often a customer uses a product at home to prevent them from running out. In addition, the company is committed to helping the environment by minimising packaging, offering eco alternatives and cutting customer’s carbon emissions (around 2.5% carbon emission reduction for the average home).

Company values

  • Conscious: We give a toss about people and the planet. We want to make people’s lives simpler and easier so they have more time and by doing this we will also improve the carbon footprint of every household
  • Alternative: Not only do we offer an alternative to the existing, out-dated ways of shopping, but we also talk to our community of customers in a way that is honest and human. We are irreverent, but for a reason, we know things can be better so we tell it how it is
  • Realistic: Helping the planet is about incremental improvements, not making unrealistic claims or big promises. We believe we can improve the everyday, which will in-turn make a difference to the future of the planet
  • Brave: We question everything and always believe there is a better way. We embrace new ideas with candour and we’re not afraid to admit we’re constantly learning and evolving
  • Empathetic: We are not a monolithic company, but a group of people who understand the stresses and strains of modern life, because we also live them everyday. We try to be pre-emptive by constantly working on how to make things simpler and better for our community of customers
  • Collaborative: Talk, ask, learn is our mantra. We love feedback from our customers, partners and friends to help us build the best service possible and to help facilitate customer focused change within the industry
  • Communal: We believe in helping local communities as the starting point to improving the bigger picture. Bother frees you up to shop locally with independents for the things you actually get excited about and supports local organisations and charities all over Britain

  • Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging are the core of Bother’s culture. Even though Bother is still at its start-up stage, Doug our CEO has ensured that creating a culture of inclusion from the foundations of the organisation is critical to its success. With under 60 employees, Bother already has a Culture and Inclusion team dedicated to creating safe spaces, initiatives, policies and procedures that are impactful and sustainable as we grow
  • Bother is a place which proactively seeks diverse backgrounds, experiences and thinking in all that we do. We are constantly evolving to ensure that everyone is equipped for success, is supported to be brave in sharing their truth and is recognised & celebrated throughout their career
  • Initiatives are embedded into our entire employee lifecycle we ensure that our values are upheld: from recruitment to exit interviews. With the support from platforms like CultureAmp, D&I data collection, and our various Employee Resource Groups and initiatives to continuously support underrepresented groups
  • We are growing every day and as we do so we have introduced “ Brave Spaces @Bother “ which are discussions where folks are encouraged to challenge ideas and speak honestly from their own experience with the aim being to learn. This is a value that we uphold naturally but where we also acknowledge that marginalised people have to be brave in diverse ways every day and in that, we have agreed to hold one another accountable when a mistake is made, and we hope our dialogue will lead us to the knowledge we couldn’t have arrived at alone
