Bother's mission is to save people and the planet from the inefficiencies of household shopping. Bother helps the customer save time, money, carbon and waste with each purchase.
61% employee growth in 12 months
The average UK household spends over 18 hours every month on grocery shopping. In addition, travel (not including flights) is the largest carbon footprint in the average UK home, and 19% of that is journeying to and from the shops. Bother want to make a proactive long-term impact on the way we all shop.
In line with their slogan, "We Bother, so you don't have to”, Bother delivers the annoying-to-carry, bulky but necessary stuff, from toilet rolls to teabags, in a way that saves everyone time and money with the added benefits of free delivery and no subscription.
Their technology learns with each shop and predicts how often a customer uses a product at home to prevent them from running out. In addition, the company is committed to helping the environment by minimising packaging, offering eco alternatives and cutting customer’s carbon emissions (around 2.5% carbon emission reduction for the average home).

My manager is one of the best people I have ever met. She cares about me as a person, before me as a team member - and that influences how we think of, plan and execute work. She cares about my development and always offers avenues for it, demonstrating that she is really happy if I grow and succeed.

At Bother, outcomes always come before time spent. What really matters is that things get done, and the quality of what gets done. If someone produces their best effort by working at non-conventional times or specific hours, from a café, from home or at the office, they are not just welcome, but encouraged to work whenever, wherever and for how long they feel creates the best conditions for success. Everyone is empowered to choose how to make work fit into life, not the other way round.

The work I do at Bother matters. My team won't consider embarking on a project if there is no meaningful impact on the people we serve, and this applies to all teams. We always look at things from a wider perspective: will this make our customer's life easier or better? Will this benefit the planet? How? We are also empowered to suggest to the wider organisation projects that are meaningful: I feel that I really want to come to work to do something important.

We have a DEIB Specialist - at this early stage, that's almost unheard of! We host Brave Space discussions to get those uncomfortable topics out there in order to test our assumptions and are doing some great work in the recruitment space to diversify our candidate pools.

Bother are still a small team and the fact that they have hired a diversity specialist shows me how important it is. We constantly have discussions about diversity and equity within the team and know we are working towards being recognised as a leader in the DEIB space.

The team here at Bother is growing at a rapid rate. We've been working virtually since the very beginning, but this hasn't stopped us from building great working relationships. My manager is approachable and they care. It doesn't matter whether it's just for a quick catch up or if I need some direction, they will always make time. We're also all encouraged to get outside away from our desks and spend time focusing on ourselves - we have an optional mindfulness session daily!

Culture is absolutely at the heart of the business and it's clear from the moment you start the interview process, what type of company it is. Values are frequently referred to both when it comes to people and culture but also how teams work. Feels like really solid foundations for a growing team.

As a company founded during COVID Bother is very remote based and family friendly. I do the nursery run 3 days a week and take time to be with my family when it matters. Also we discovered in standup that half the product team can recite the Gruffalo by heart ...

Working with nice people is always a priority for me, but its also great that everyone here is fantastic at what they do. Despite being at home during lockdown, there is still time spent together and effort made from upper management to enable that (events etc). I am looking forward to sharing a pint with everyone.

The tech is the latest and greatest because we get the opportunity to choose the tech. We set outcomes and then can do the implementation in any (reasonable) way we see fit. The variety of work is excellent, something that is important to me at this point in my life. I have done, devops, QA, hiring all on top of being a developer. There is also great knowledge sharing that happens on a weekly/fortnightly basis where people can share things about in house tech or what they have learnt on the side.
