To unlock the power of algae as a scalable, affordable and near-term solution to climate change.
With each day, our ability to limit the impacts of the climate crisis lessens. And while governments might be slow-acting, Brilliant Planet aims to sequester as much carbon as possible for less than $50 per ton.
It harnesses the natural ability of algae to absorb carbon from the atmosphere, with a 30 hectare in the Moroccan desert algae farm which replicates the perfect conditions for algae to grow. It’s an almost completely natural process - the sun does most of the work growing - though some energy is used on moving around such large quantities of water. The algae is grown in seawater, which is completely de-acidified as a byproduct of the process.
Other companies use algae similarly, but Brilliant Planet is the only one to use seawater and so to provide that additional bonus of de-acidification. And as our planet continues to heat, multiple companies working on algae carbon capture is no bad thing.
