Our take
The video game industry is one of the biggest and fastest growing industries in the world. In this saturated market, it can be difficult for independent game studios to stand out. However, Build a Rocket Boy (BARB) is one studio that has made a significant splash.
BARB was founded by Leslie Benzies, the high-profile producer and developer who helmed the Grand Theft Auto franchise, one of the biggest and best-selling media titles in the world. This has lent the studio a great deal of media and industry attention. This pedigree (and subsequent financial backing) has allowed the company to attract some of the best and brightest developer talent too.
One of the studio's first titles, "Everywhere", has been described as an innovative “multi-world game experience”. This has set a strong precedent for the studio, which has already built a reputation as a disruptor and potential competitor for fellow Scotland-based developer Rockstar, which Benzies previously worked for. The highly anticipated MindsEye will be released via the Everywhere world in 2023.
