Our take
Increased consumer eco-consciousness has the tide gradually turning against fast-fashion. In its place, we’re seeing the emergence of a vigorous clothing rental economy in which users can access quality garments at a fraction of the original retail value. By Rotation is a UK contender in this space, with its P2P marketplace of contemporary designer clothing.
By Rotation has gathered impressive steam since its launch. In fact, it’s one of the fastest growing fashion retail platforms in the EU market, and is taking advantage of this momentum with a NY launch slated for late 2022.
It’s a busy market, though. In the UK there’s Hirestreet, MY WARDOBE HQ, and the similar platform Hurr - and stateside, By Rotation will be contending with Rent the Runway, the biggest player in the emerging clothing rental market.
By Rotation’s focus on the social aspect may help it net some of the Gen Z demographic. Plus, by being P2P (which Rent the Runway is not), By Rotation can more easily leverage the pull of influencer-curated collections. Certainly, it's made an impressive start in a ballooning sector.
