Our take
Construction companies are facing a triple-headed threat to their business: huge skilled labor shortages, unprecedented building demand and rising building costs due to inflation. Pressures on the bottom line have encouraged a huge inflow of capital into cost-saving solutions, one of which is the introduction of robotic automation on site.
Canvas is one of the leading startups attempting to deliver robotic automation solutions to construction companies. However, instead of attempting to deliver a raft of solutions, the startup has initially focused on a narrow use-case - drywall installation - for which its robots can add massive value.
This industry is incredibly $25 billion in its own right and notorious for causing injury as well as being labour intensive. For that reason, Canvas will likely continue to focus its efforts in the drywalling area. Already it has refined its product to the point where demand is outpacing its ability to supply.
