Our take
Carter Labs supplies a platform for users to create and interact with virtual people, using generative AI to create natural-seeming, immersive conversation with characters. The platform has a host of possible uses, most notably for creating better, more real-feeling NPCs for the gaming industry. According to Carter, it could also see use cases in digital companionship platforms, mental health support, virtual assistants and augmented reality applications.
After securing funding in 2022, Carter Labs has been developing its offering. This includes an API toolkit that will allow developers to integrate conversational AI into their characters, as well as Carter Chat - a place for people to create their own virtual people and chat with the creations of others. It's certainly an intriguing concept that the company is bringing to the table, and it will be interesting to see how it further develops into the future.
