Our take

The UK banking market is becoming a more interesting place for challengers, with newer banks looking beyond traditional retail banking to find new ways to grow. Chetwood Bank's move into wholesale lending is a good example of that shift, opening the doors to larger relationships with corporates, institutions and specialist lenders.

Chetwood started out with a focus on savings and mortgages, and its proposition is deliberately straightforward: digital banking, simple products and a "no nonsense" approach. Now, with Wholesale Banking, its adding a more sophisticated side to the business, offering tailored lending that can be organised, structured and managed under one roof.

The bank has grown to a £7B balance sheet and a £3B mortgage lending portfolio, while lending £1B through forward-flow relationships over the past year. Its expansion into structured finance and non-GBP assets, alongside the launch of Wholesale Banking, points to a bank that is becoming broader and more ambitious.
