CodeSandbox's mission is to enable any creator to build and share their ideas. By removing complexity and simplifying collaboration, the company wants to allow everyone to create things with code.
CodeSandbox aims to build a next-generation platform where everyone can build and contribute. The cofounders started the service as a side project but after usage started to surge they decided to turn it into an official company. CodeSandbox says its more than 4 million monthly users (including within organisations like Shopify, Netflix, and Stripe) have together created over 30 million projects on the platform.
Web development is increasingly distributed and more people are getting involved in the development process. Designers, product owners, testers, and more all want to give feedback and iterate quickly, but they still need to ask a developer for help in each step. CodeSandbox wants to make creation more accessible, and plans on using its recent funding to make that a reality.
CodeSandbox is part of a broader movement to simplify coding and make it more accessible, commonly referred to as “low code” or “no code.” It’s a big trend, which means CodeSandbox will also face some tough competitors sich as Airtable. While there already are web-based tools for individual coders, CodeSandbox is expanding this idea by making projects available to teams.
