Our take

Sites like Autotrader and Motors.co.uk were quick to transpose the e-commerce model to used car sales. For the classic car sector, however, the process has changed little, still depending largely on in-person auctions. The Collecting Group is a relatively new online auction house group that’s taking advantage of this gap in the market, and it’s making big waves.

It’s a 24/7 global marketplace that connects global customers with sellers of classic, iconic, and collectible cars, and charges just a fraction of the fees levied by more traditional auction houses. The model took off fast: in 2020, just one year after launch, car sales on the platform topped £45M.

Following the success of the founding business, in 2021 the company expanded to offer a watch collecting platform too. Backed by the expertise of The Collecting Group, the watch collecting auction platform was able to surpass £10M sales in just 10 months.
