Autonomy is a huge part of everyone's role here at Colony. Everyone is entrusted with a high level of independence and ownership, and there is full transparency across the board, right down to open salaries and time-off etc. I have the freedom to make critical decisions, experiment with innovative concepts, and collaborate with cross-functional teams. This autonomy accelerates the projects we work on, allowing me to deliver outputs that are meaningful and rewarding.

I have the privilege of leading projects that go beyond aesthetics; they have a real impact on how people collaborate and interact in decentralized organizations. Knowing that our work empower teams to work more efficiently, make fairer decisions, and achieve their own goals gives profound meaning to my work.

Colony has open salaries, a strange concept for most, but one that, after you get used to it, works great as it eliminates the trust issues some workplaces instill. Salaries are determined by a standard formula and reward hard work.

Working at Colony has allowed me to expand my horizons and pushed to the limit in order to deliver a complex and amazing product. All the while being supported by an amazing team of engineers who enabled me to deliver on the goals of the company.

Working for Colony has great work life balance, allowing me to have a rewarding career as well as being able to focus on my personal hobbies. Another aspect that factors into this is the focus on growing as a developer/engineer by having your own budget to spend on bettering yourself.

Freedom/autonomy: you're given a lot of space and responsibility early on to just go and get on with the job. There's not a lot of formal management / hierarchy, so you're free to go and solve a problem and then come back when you have a solution. The team does have a pretty standard code review process in place, but that's as far as it goes in terms of oversight. And any bigger challenges can always be discussed as a group before you go off and solve it. Great if you like being given the time and space to solve interesting, difficult, and often un-stack-overflowable problems!

Transparency: salaries are internally transparent, and comp is tied to performance/responsibility not just tenure. If after one year here you've proven you can work independently and add value to the team, you'll be rewarded (speaking from experience!).

Virtually all company decision making processes are open to all, either directly in the sense of being invited and/or expected to participate, or indirectly insofar as the all internal communication channels are visible to all and you can thus observe what's happening across the company (and speak up if you wish to!). Fortnightly all hands also increases company-wide communication lines, and there's a culture in Colony of transparently discussing key company metrics. Also, Colony is genuinely looking to improve its processes and therefore all feedback, especially constructive, is welcome and valued.

Colony is developing cutting-edge software for running organizations. Much more exciting than optimizing advertising clicks or finding ways to make rich people richer.

As a remote team, everyone is given a lot of space to work on their projects. After five years I still enjoy logging on every morning and seeing what's going on.

Colony draws an interesting and international group of people. I always enjoy interacting with other teammates and hearing their opinions. Definitely not a basic group.
