Our take

Commonplace provides a set of digital tools that help re-build trust in planning processes, by making it easier for communities to influence local planning decisions.

Traditional planning consultations can be manual and time-intensive, and only provide a momentary snapshot of a situation. Commonplace's tools innovate by provide an ongoing channel of understanding and collaboration, thus offering deeper insights into communities. The company aims to energise local democracy in the social media age by hosting open digital conversations that are simple to participate in and representative of the whole community.

Since launching in 2014, millions of people have visited Commonplace's platform, and it has been used by some of the largest property developers and infrastructure providers in the UK. It has also been deployed by many local authorities to give communities a voice in the planning process. In 2023, the company raised fresh funding that will support expansion as it further grows its client base, accelerating towards its goal of inspiring thriving places.
