To provide impartial ‘innovation as a service’ for public bodies, businesses, and infrastructure providers to catalyse step-change improvements in the way people live, work and travel.
Technological innovation generally leads to the modernisation of cities, a progression that infrastructure providers, mobility businesses, and public institutions thrive on. However, innovating upon the infrastructure of a city is easier said than done, with companies often lacking the creative expertise or funding necessary to truly innovate upon their public products.
Connected Places Catapult offers an innovation accelerator for cities, offering 'innovation as a service' and funding to infrastructure providers, mobility companies, environment businesses, and public institutions to help develop their ideas for the future. Examples of backed projects include carbon elimination programs for cities, post COVID-19 technology, communal innovation hubs, and social hubs driven by virtual and augmented reality.
Whilst companies often employ creative thinkers to handle product innovations, Connected Places Catapult shows the potential to provide a more effective solution by not only providing innovation as a service but also the necessary capital and project management. In addition to serving large-scale infrastructural projects, the company also runs a dedicated SME programme to accelerate the growth of innovative small businesses.
