Tech solutions for team collaboration have never been in higher demand. The recent global events have fundamentally changed the way many people work, transforming business communications for every employee around the globe. This trend is likely here to stay, with many businesses switching to remote-first policies as a result.
Following this trend, Cord was founded to build a product that allows users to chat, leave voice messages, and start a video call with team members on any page, whilst also offering smart and real-time feedback, enabling teams to increase productivity and establish network effects. However, instead of trying to replace existing communication and teamwork tools, Cord is aiming to empower them all and transform communication in existing SaaS apps.
Top investors behind Notion, Slack, Figma, Canva, and Stripe have invested in the company, and leaders at Google, Twitter, and Tinder have worked closely with Cord to make their vision a reality. The real challenge will be in building its market as competitors, such as Sedna, Fuze, Element, and Blink, also aim to muscle into the space.

Cord is 100% a tech start-up and the work that we have to do here is challenging in all the fun ways. As a startup there is not as much there as at a big tech company so we need to find our own solutions. As a small startup it means we sometimes need to be creative.

From week 1 I felt like my opinions and prior experience was valued at Cord. From the first week I could impact the decisions that were being made, and people appreciated my input. Especially when it came to diverse opinions

Everything at Cord is very transparent. As a small start-up communicating with everyone is possible, and people bring their honest opinions into meetings. Probably because we feel safe doing so.

Cord's culture is respectful of people's time and life outside work. The founders understand that happy employees have lives, and take an accommodating and trusting approach. It's a parent-friendly organisation too :)

I'm working on a new category with no direct competitors. There are tons of complex user-facing problems to solve, and none of them are familiar to me. The challenges mean I'm already listed as an author on a handful of patents!

Our team composition speaks for itself. Across all levels and roles, we've always been blind to people's background and actively seeking and encouraging participation from across the board.

Diversity is a priority

In addition to a generally open culture, where all documents on all aspects of the business are open to everyone, the team meets together to discuss everything candidly on a weekly basis. The founders regularly have 1:1s with all employees, and we have open, no-BS discussions about strategy, successes and challenges, culture and everything else. Even board discussions and decks are shared, and everyone gets to learn, and contribute to, how to build a startup.

With the CTO being the first engineer for Facebook London and building a team of 450 engineers around him and our CEO having advised for some of the most exciting start-ups they really know how to hire, support and encourage professional growth. External mentors are offered where needed getting to work with idols in my space. They truly care about their people.

The way in which computing evolved led us to find ourselves working across different, single-player web-based tools, and communicating in a separate 'destination' like email or Slack. We're building a better way to collaborate at a time when its needed most.
