Company mission

Cortirio’s mission is to save lives by developing low-cost, portable brain imaging.

Our take

Cortirio aims to save lives through developing its portable and affordable brain imaging device. Currently, brain injuries are one of the most frequent causes of death and permanent disability among young people, while most brain imaging technology is unwieldy and expensive.

This often causes huge delays, prices out treatment, and costs lives, especially in middle or low income countries. Cortirio's wearable headset can allow brain imaging at any site of injury, and offer a diagnosis quickly and easily through the use of infrared light.

Cortirio uses fNIRS (functional near infrared spectroscopy), increasing its spatial resolution in its portable imaging device. By not using X-ray radiation, scans can run continuously to provide real-time feedback on patients' treatment, like how a heart rate monitor can alert medical staff if a patient's heart stops.

Its device is low cost and portable - making imaging available to everyone everywhere - as well as providing diagnosis in under 2 minutes and automatic data transfer and analysis. Through its innovation, Cortirio could save up to millions of lives, but the technology backing it has near endless potential, from mental health treatment to stroke and age-related decline.
