Company mission

CrossSense applies evidence-based neuroscience and multimodal AI to technology, helping those with cognitive impairment maintain independence and enjoy life.

Our take

Smart glasses are no new thing within the public consciousness, but the tech's applications continue to widen. CrossSense is utilising the augmented reality tech to help dementia patients maintain their independence for longer.

The company helps patients with early-stage dementia via context-aware and medically approved smart glasses. Rather than providing reminders and to-do lists, CrossSense’s AI agent, Wispy, helps users with the order of tasks. Whether it be making a cup of tea or getting dressed, Wispy builds up users' confidence via contextual questions concerning what stage of a task comes next. This encourages dementia patients to keep cognitively active through emotional support, active guidance and timekeeping alerts.

CrossSense’s research started back in 2015, and it’s only in the last few years that technology has caught up with its vision. Its pilot scheme has been NICE-approved (National Institute for Care & Health Excellence) and received government backing from the Innovate UK Mindset programme. With pilot schemes indicating that 3 out of 4 subjects saw a significant improvement in quality of life, here’s to hoping CrossSense receives the backing to continue its pioneering work.
