To supercharge on-chain games.
Web3 gaming has grown in recent years, with 2022 seeing a number of popular releases such as AlienWorlds and Splinterlands. These allow players to play and earn NFTs and crypto, unlocking the possibility of profiting from an investment of gaming time. However, until now Web3 games have not fully leveraged the potential of the blockchain in allowing gamers access to and persistent control of the in-game, multiplayer worlds they are playing in.
Curio Research exists to change that, providing gaming experiences which encourage user generated content that hooks into the in-game logic. Played entirely on-chain, this allows players to alter the rules of the world they are playing in, affecting everyone involved in the game. Curio has recently released its debut title, Treaty, where players craft diplomatic treaties between one another to strategically alter the game's fundamental rules and allow the most cunning player to seize victory. Eventually its games will allow players to build any infrastructure or content they wish, allowing a higher degree of interaction than traditionally possible with older games.
Having recently closed a seed funding round, Curio is planning to develop more Web3 games and expand its player base. It is also aiming to expand its development and design teams, onboarding talent with experience in blockchain engineering and game designers. If it is able to popularise Web3 technology in gaming for more than just making a profit, then Curio stands a good chance of building a significant business in this space.
