Our take

Eight in ten women suffer from side effects of contraception and yet this is a state of affairs that society has decided to accept. However, research has confirmed what many women already know - that eventually finding the right contraceptive for your personal biology can make a major difference.

Dama Health was created to fight this accepted norm. By leveraging pharmacogenetic research, the company will use a genetic test and womens’ preferences to automatically match women to suitable contraceptive types.

The startup is moving forward by developing their product with 100+ beta testers as well as publishing its research to be peer-reviewed by other leading researchers in the field.

The biggest challenge will be meeting the difficult standards established to prove true clinical value. Having said that, it is hard to imagine that the talented team can’t improve on the current unpersonalised approach to contraceptive prescription.
