Our take
Dave is a digital banking service provider that is setting out to shake up and reinvent digital banking for the better. Dave was founded by three friends who were ‘fed up' with overdraft fees and not being able to work out how much money they had left before payday
Dave was launched with a variety of different money management tools designed to save customers from overdraft fees. Using an algorithm, it can work out how likely a client will be able to repay their loans based on their income history and checking account. Since its launch, Dave has gained over 4M users and has a valuation of $1B. The ultimate plan for the company is to grow to disrupt the legacy financial system by providing a convenient digital alternative.
Dave faces competition from companies such as Flow, a credit management company, and Olivia AI, a financial assistant app, but outperforms both in both funding rounds and overall valuation. Dave is unique in that it gives its users small loans that they can pay back after payday, with no fees, which allows people to rebuild their credit history.
