Our take

Many workforces have migrated to remote work, and whilst the benefits resulted in some companies permanently adopting it, many benefits of in-person teams have been lost. Perhaps the most significant loss is the lack of collaboration and camaraderie that is present in social-driven, in-person workforces, something that digital communication tools are yet to solve.

Donut has developed a team engagement integration for Slack, providing digital opportunities for social interaction between employees through a communication platform. It enables digital communication templates such as "virtual coffee" programs, icebreakers, and conversation prompts, ultimately aiming to boost workplace productivity and engagement through socialization encouragement.

Whilst Slack is already used to combat the loss of in-person workplace socialization, Donut has recognized that many employees do not actively engage in these social channels. By automating random conversation amongst workforces and encouraging the integration of social rituals into Slack channels, the company shows great potential to replace missing social links despite workforces remaining remote-only.
