To reimagine freedom at any age.
The US’ elderly population firmly prefers to age at home. This is good news for the overburdened, understaffed, and underfunded US care home sector; but it brings up challenges of its own. Namely, how to meet the more modest but consistent in-home care requirements of this demographic? Various answers are coming from the newly emergent agetech sector - part of which is the elderly care platform DUOS.
The DUOS subscription service pairs up elderly customers with qualified care assistants. These assistants provide both virtual companionship and logistical and healthcare support, so elderly people are able to keep on top of domestic chores, housing issues, health, and community engagement.
It’s a comprehensive service - but one matched equally by DUOS’ direct competitor, the newly minted unicorn Papa. The latter company also provides optional in-person companionship, for a lower cost, which means it addresses the key loneliness epidemic that’s a critical part of the ageing population crisis.
Nevertheless, both companies are operating in a fairly uncluttered market - and addressing an acute and growing issue. The sector is growing fast, with VC investment to match, and whilst DUOS may need to expand to compete with Papa, it's certainly in a strong position.
