Our take
There are two fundamental issues that the trucking industry currently faces; a shortage of drivers and super high GHG-emissions. Fernride is a company looking to make both of those statements a thing of the past. Setting itself apart in its sector by focusing on yard trucking, using a human-assisted approach, the electric vehicles are self-driving, but if the need arises can be operated by a human. A category leader having developed a reliable service of driverless operations.
Since founding in 2019 the company has scaled at an impressive rate going from 3 to over 100 employees and gained high-profile partners, such as Volkswagen, DB Schenker and B/S/H. In 2022 the company landed a big win initiating the first productive operations of two automated trucks at the world’s largest automotive production plant at Volkswagen Wolfsburg. Venture capital backed Fernride has invested its funding in focusing on growing the amount of vehicles one human can assist up a dozen, rather than the current four at a time, and continue its path towards establishing fully autonomous capabilities. It's safe to say Fernride's name is well established in its sector and is one to watch.
