Our take

Faraway is one of the most prominent studios in the burgeoning blockchain and NFT gaming market. In-game economies connect billions of mobile players already in centrally controlled games like Clash of Clans. It’s easy to see how a player-owned distributed database where cheating is inherently more challenging could represent an upgrade and gargantuan opportunity for Web3 investors.

Faraway is one such creator in the space. Millions of players registered as users for its browser-based flagship title Mini Royale: Nations.

The studio is targeting hyper-social experiences with truly, crazy complex economies that we are seeing in free to play. The founders’ ability to bring their experience to this new industry is what has likely attracted stellar investment.

The biggest difficulty for the studio will be maintaining the communities of its games even while chaos erupts in the crypto and NFT markets. Ultimately, blockchain could represent a truly transformative approach to in-game economy experiences whatever the state of the wider industry. Faraway will simply have to persevere.
