To build the world’s best games for Web 3.0.
As the Web 3.0 gaming market becomes increasingly crowded with over 400 blockchain-games in the market, games studios need to stand out to win players, backers and talent. The relatively simple games of the Web3 boom that relied on the economic draw of NFTs alone are unable to draw players away from more traditional PC and mobile games that emphasise gameplay. Firstlight Games seeks to shake this up by combining its skills in game development with a deep understanding of the NFT economy.
Firstlight's standout product is Blast Royale, a blockchain-based game that combines a large-scale online deathmatch with NFT technology. Players own the equipment they find, create and use in-game, and also earn Ethereum-backed tokens as they play which can also be bought or sold, and used to voice opinions about the future development direction of the game. By rewarding player involvement in this way, Firstlight seeks to to stand out from the competition which does not combine the economic and democratic potentials of blockchain technology as effectively.
Firstlight Games' Blast Royale has recently completed seed round funding, led by Animoca Brands and Mechanism Capital. It is looking to invest this into the product and commence public listing and sales of its in-game currency. Though it faces stiff competition within the blockchain game market and from well-known battle royale games such as PubG and Fortnite, it is definitely a gaming company to watch closely.
