To empower all walks of life the flexibility to have a car of their own without the hassles of traditional car ownership.
Subscription services such as Netflix and Spotify allow customers an alternative to buying a movie or song, providing instead a pay-as-you-go catalogue which would be out of reach of all but the most dedicated (and wealthy) collector. So why not provide the same service for cars? Flexcar was founded to do away with the myriad of difficulties and costs of ownership by providing a subscription model for cars.
Although other alternatives to car ownership exist, such as ride-sharing and car rental, Flexcar doesn't see itself in competition with these models, rather adding another layer of flexibility in the car-sharing space. By providing another option between short-term hire and ownership, Flexcar has identified a market niche which has allowed it to grow rapidly.
Since its founding, Flexcar has expanded from its base in Boston to metropolitan areas in Atlanta, Nashville and, most recently, Charlotte. It is capitalizing on its success by hiring extensively in engineering and marketing to develop its product and grow its customer base. In the long term, it hopes to continue its expansion across the United States.
