Our take

Flume is changing how companies design and launch health plans by offerings a faster alternative to traditional third-party administrators (TPAs). With Flume, businesses can roll out fully configured, personalized health plans in a matter of months (far quicker than the industry norm). And by streamlining what has historically been a slow and fragmented process, the company has positioned itself as a vital tool for the next generation of health plan providers.

The company argues that legacy TPAs, many of which stillrrely on dated, manual systems, are a major bottleneck in the healthcare ecosystem. Their lack of technolical advancement has made it difficult for employers and startups alike to ffer tailored health benefits. In contrast, Flume's approach eliminates many of these inefficiencies, accelerating the shift toward more responsive and affordable care models.

Initially launched as a tech0-forward administrator to help employers self-insure, Flume pivoted in 2021 with the release of Flume OS, a platform designed as a launchpad for challenger health plans. The platform has since gained serious traction, helping fast-growing startups like Firefly Health and Hue Health bring their offerings to the market. And with over $40M in funding raised, Flume is now scaling its operations and continuing to break down barriers in the healthcare space.
