Our take

With globalisation continuing apace, business supply chains are getting more complex, more vulnerable, and facing tighter ethical scrutiny than in the past. This means effective supply chain management tools are critical, and Gaupa Labs is one of a few startups hoping to resolve these pressures through the blockchain.

Gaupa Labs is developing a blockchain-based supply chain management system; whilst in its early stages still, it appears to offer a digitised blockchain record of every stage in the supply chain journey.

It’s a simple application relative to other blockchain/supply chain startups like Openport (blockchain based shipping optimization) and Skuchain (bitcoin-based cryptographic security). However, offering blockchain-based records could be big business: it cuts down the remarkable paperwork and manpower expenses of legacy systems. Plus, as Gaupa Labs is smart to emphasise, it allows businesses to more legitimately prove and promote their sustainability credentials.

This is especially relevant in Gaupa Lab’s home territory of Norway, where the 2022 Supply Chain Transparency Act recently threw business supply chains under far sharper ethical scrutiny than ever before. So whilst in its early stages (full community launch is anticipated for lat 2022) Gaupa Labs is developing at the forefront of a critical and lucrative sector.
