Our take

Turkish food delivery company Getir offers groceries and restaurant deliveries via a mobile app, operating within the same market as companies such as Deliveroo and UberEats.

The company has had a wealth of success, bolstered by the increase in business due to the pandemic, acquiring competitor Gorillas and US-based FreshDirect along the way. However, it has recently faced challenges as competition across Europe has heated up. As of 2024, Getir has left all European markets save for Turkey due to stalling revenues in the delivery sector.

With that said, Getir is using fresh funds to streamline its business, splitting into two businesses that will separately cover its Turkish deliveries and all its other assets and investments. The company is in a state of transition, and it will be interesting to see the results of this giant’s seismic shift in European presence and tactical restructuring.
