Build a “knowledge base” that can fill in Wikipedia’s blind spots, particularly when it comes to emerging technologies and startups.
In this age of information, there are surprisingly few big names when it comes to finding accurate information and knowledge. Wikipedia especially has many users, despite the inaccuracies that arise from the site’s reliance on community editing.
In contrast, Golden.com, the brainchild of founder Jude Gomila, aims to fill in Wikipedia’s blind spots and act as an alternative to the problem of its ‘arbitrary notability threshold’, where pages that Wikipedia decides aren’t notable enough are removed.
Instead of relying on a community to process and edit its pages, Golden combines human effort with artificial intelligence, gathering data using natural language processing before being curated by human eyes.
Since the site launched in 2019, Golden has secured an impressive round of funding and good-will with its audience. Primarily of which includes private equity firms, hedge funds, VCs, biotech companies, corporate innovation offices and government agencies. Interestingly, its focus is primarily on emerging, innovative tech and startups, giving much more attention to companies just starting out.
