Our take

Founded in 2019, Gretel.ai was created as an answer to the gap in the data anonymity market and helps developers get the data they need faster. With their first product being a synthetic data toolkit for developers, has already secured impressive funding, with investors Greylock Partners among its funding bodies.

Though young, the key to their funding boost has been Gretel’s championing of synthetic data rather than real world. Real-world data can be harder to procure because of privacy issues and its inflexibility to potentialities. Feeding AI with synthetic data - which reflects real world without quoting it - makes data collation and software development easier in testing, AI training and simulation settings.

Gretel is one of a handful of companies - others include Diveplane and MostlyAI - to rely on synthetic data in cybersecurity. The robustness and flexibility of synthetic data has turbo-charged Gretel, which must now focus on diversifying its client list and developing new products for the marketplace.
