To connect every queer woman, non-binary, trans and GNC person on the planet.
Dating apps can be difficult for LGBTQ+ women, trans and non-binary people, with the majority of options being more geared to straight and cisgender identities. Aside from it being hard to find someone to match with on those platforms, the apps don't adequately tackle gender identities or sexuality, and don't take into account issues like the difficulty of meeting anyone at all during the process of coming out. HER provides a way for LGBT+ women and queer people to meet in a way that respects and cherishes their identities and their needs.
HER is similar to dating apps such as OkCupid and Tinder in that it matches people based on geolocation and interests and uses the familiar swipe left/right format. Where it differs greatly is that it is not open to cis men, and it does not take a narrow binary approach to sex and gender, allowing users to select multiple options that describe them (and help prospective dates and friends find them!). It is also outspoken in its support for the queer people who use the platform and proactively enforces policies to protect them from queerphobic and transphobic abuse, which can be rife on other platforms.
HER has over 10 million registered users. Compared to other dating apps such as Tinder with its over 75 million active users monthly, it still has a lot of room to grow. As a safe space for LGBT+ women and queer people to meet, date and maybe fall in love, it certainly meets an important need, and as the stigma around LGBTQ identities fades, HER is in a strong position to continue its growth.
