To build a world where everyone has brighter days and more tomorrows

Heights exist to help people do more of what they want, for longer in their lives, by making braincare simple. People might spend hundreds of dollars a month on skincare, but not a penny on the brain? That’s where Heights comes in.
Spending on health and wellness products is over a trillion dollars per year, the company's aim is to direct some of that towards the health of the brain. To do that, they’re defining a new paradigm, putting Braincare on the map through their unique mix of science, community, and products both physical and digital. Heights are setting out to build a platform, not just selling a product.
Backed up by decades of neuroscience research, Heights are re-imagining wellness by placing braincare at the centre. Their first product was the Smart Supplement—20 essential nutrients in two capsules a day. This has been trusted by the likes of Steven Bartlett, Stephen Fry, Renee Elliot, Trinny Woodall, and the company now have over 10k customers globally. Heights have recently launched in the US, and will be launching in further territories in the near future.

As a fully remote company with employees across different time zones, flexibility is a huge benefit of working at Heights. Everyone's time is respected, and with clear communication you are able to manage your own schedule without worry.

From my initial interview, hearing about how Heights look after their employees was a selling point to me as I sometimes struggle with my mental health. Here, there is no stigma or taboo around the topic. We make use of Slack emojis in our status to communicate how we're feeling to the wider team. Days of rest are encouraged, and when you need a personal day – whether it be mental health, physical health or family circumstances – the team will always step up to support you, both personally and professionally.

When I joined Heights, I started as a Research Intern. Quickly my responsibilities grew in the team and I was offered the opportunity to become more integrated within the Product Team. I was mentored and given resources to help build my knowledge and expertise. Within 6 months of being at Heights, I was promoted to Research and Product Executive. Every 3 months we develop OKRs which provide you with wider responsibilities for the overall company as well as more tailored, personal responsibilities and goals. No matter what level you're at in the company, everyone is approachable and more than willing to support you.

Opportunities to learn

Being a remote company with employees from all over the world, being flexible is a non-negotiable here at Heights. We all come from a range of backgrounds, whether that's caring for parents, children, pets and more. We aim to prioritise self care and braincare, so we don't expect our team to sit at their desks all day; we encourage our staff to go for a walk if they're on a call (dependent on the type of call, of course) or take a longer lunch break if therapy or the gym is on your schedule during the day rather than the evening. We trust that you'll get what you've set out to do that day, whether that means starting earlier or working slightly later. A key skill we've all mastered here to ensure this works is communicating this to your direct or the wider team via message and/or Slack status.

I am a morning person and my energy levels are pretty low in the late afternoon so I start work earlier. This flexibility truly allows me to produce my best work and also have time in the afternoon to enjoy life.

I love working for Heights because I am part of a company that is helping shape and define the way we think about Braincare. Caring for our brain as much as we care about skincare is vital and Heights is here to make it known.

It's rewarding to work for a company that is actually impacting lives - educating and empowering consumers to look after their brains such that they can lead happier and healthier lives shouldn't be a novel concept. That makes building the braincare category ever more important and motivating.

We're not just building a successful brand, we're building a whole new category. That takes a big commitment and incredible work ethic from everyone in the team. It's great to see how much everyone cares about our mission and customers - going the extra mile is part of who we are.

Whether it's our weekly team updates or brainstorms during our bi-annual retreat; everyone at Heights can, and is expected to, contribute their questions or insights. When defining policies or making company-wide decisions, it's standard practice to consult the full team and ask us for our feedback.

My opinions are valued
Apr 2022
In all my previous roles I have worked for managers that have either tried to micromanage me or it has been extremely top down, with no option for the opinions of those working on the 'front line' to be taken into consideration. Working at Heights I truly feel like my voice is heard and this makes me super motivated to work hard and be the best I can be at my job.

We are growing fast and in my first 6 months at Heights I have already had a title change and a promotion! I am super excited to see how my career progresses and feel like this organisation gives me the coaching and opportunities to really grow for it!

The team is super friendly and mistakes and failures are only ever seen as a learning curve. We have regular feedback loops and open dialogue about what we can and should do better. I know I can be honest with my team mates (and even the co-founders) about issues, improvements, suggestions or anything else I think the company could benefit from.

Open and honest communication
Apr 2022
I love working at Heights because as a remote company the effort that's put into values, that drive the culture, which in turn make it an incredibly fun place to work as well as rewarding, is the best I've seen in any company. We also get bombarded with customer reviews about the impact we're having on their health - and there's no better feeling for the team to motivate us to do the work!

Feedback is not just encouraged but trained, supported, demonstrated regularly and always includes everyone from the founders down. The company really lives it's values - and with 'keep a sense of humour and humility' - whenever there are mistakes they are owned up to quickly and done so honestly whilst inviting a sense of not taking ourselves too seriously - as we all make mistakes. We're always challenged to come to the table with what we've learned from the mistakes - and galvanise around them, before moving on. It's a great approach that encourages us to take risks and be our true selves - you feel like you can really trust each other.

The leadership team is experienced, collaborative, patient and kind as well as fun and really care about the mission and team. The founders are thoughtful - constantly sharing the 'why' behind their decisions, why they care about instilling the values, demonstrate how they listen to feedback, and whilst they arent perfect - if they receive feedback on their style, or actions, they publicly share their failings, or where they went wrong and lead from the front with honesty to make sure others know how to behave. The founders take quite different approaches internally too - Joel more as the manager and Dan more as the coach, but both combine to help us achieve our OKRs and encourage us to take breaks and pace ourselves through each quarter appropriately! You can always tell they care and never question they have the right intentions for you as an employee.

There is no unpleasant feeling of hierarchy anywhere in the team at Heights. Everyone is available to talk to, and everyone's input is valued and supported in the team. There is a strong culture of offering and receiving feedback regularly, allowing and inspiring us to grow as individuals and teammates. This is certainly something that is led by Dan and Joel, who have a clear vision of company culture and team wellness. Everyone feels important and is trusted within their role.

There is no such question as a silly one here at Heights. In fact, the more bizarre, the more interesting, the more likely we will end up having colourful discussions, which are key when we work remotely! We all thrive off the creativity, innovation, and diversity of our minds. It is clear to the team that psychological safety is important to ensure everyone feels able to speak up and even make mistakes. We are all learning and growing together, which is why we all feel very much like a family. "Ask for forgiveness, not permission" demonstrates exactly how we work.

Heights are consistently looking for new ways to take care of everyone in ways that benefit us all personally. That may be by offering internal coaching, a wellness 'budget', or team retreats every 6 months. Rob, who works in HR, is a genuine angel who will honestly go to the ends of the earth to ensure that every single person is happy, heard, and thriving at work. I have never felt so supported and loved in a company and this is a result of the strong, considerate, and reflective leadership.

When I left my last company I wanted to work for a mission-driven company, establishing a new discipline from the ground up, that would ultimately make a difference in peoples lives. At Heights that's helping people do more of what they love in their life by making braincare simple. Hearing our customers stories on how we've changed their lives every day is unbelievably rewarding.

We're trying to help people do more of what they want for longer through Braincare, what is more meaningful than that? As someone with ADHD and anxiety who is passionate about neuroscience being able to help others live better lives by understanding our brains is an amazing feeling. On top of that, Heights offers a ton of autonomy and ownership so you'll always be working on something that pushes the needle.
