To make electric vehicle charging ubiquitous and affordable, starting with retrofitting apartment buildings across Europe.
HeyCharge retrofits electric vehicle charging stations in places like parking lot buildings, apartment complexes, and vacation properties. Whereas the majority of existing charging tech requires an internet connection, which makes underground car parks a challenge, HeyCharge’s plug-and-play solution connects via Bluetooth.
The 2020 founded startup is the first to offer this kind of solution, and with a patent for its tech pending, it has the potential to become a major player in the growth of the electric vehicle market as a whole.
HeyCharge’s primary investor to date is BMW i Ventures, the VC arm of the BMW Group, which invests heavily in sustainable tech. This is a potentially huge partnership, as many of the world’s biggest automotive companies are pivoting into electric vehicle production, yet their sales prospects are impacted by a lack of suitable charging infrastructure.
By backing HeyCharge to expand its solutions across Europe, where it's focusing for the time being, BMW is boosting its own sales prospects, which in turn should increase demand for the startup's charging points.
