Thanks to this demand, the company has enjoyed a considerable amount of funding success. This funding will help to ensure that Hive remains as competitive as possible in the growing HR tech market.
Hive's main challenge in the next five years will be competing with similar HR platforms. It will need to work hard to differentiate its tech from its competitors, but if it can do this, Hive stands to make impressive gains.

There is dedicated self-development time you can use to upskill, do a course, experiment with tech etc. Whatever will develop your skills and knowledge in areas you choose. Seniors take this time seriously, and will try to encourage you to make use of it rather than let it go towards work.

We have weekly huddle meetings where a member of each team gives a short rundown of what's going on in that team. We also have larger company meetings where progress, goals, decisions, and changes are all talked about in detail. Every aspect of the business is visible to anybody who wants to know. All engineering team members have been through team exercises and courses based on how best to receive and give helpful feedback. Focussing on the specific actions and effects means that the feedback communicated is of high quality. This also makes the subject of feedback like this less daunting.

The number of holiday days is large enough that you can take regular enough days off to prevent burn-out, while also leaving enough days for larger holidays. We have multiple mental-health first aiders across teams who are always on hand. Managers and team leaders also take well-being very seriously, always reaching out if they feel something is off, and encouraging team members to take time for themselves. Work doesn't come before the human beings doing it.

All of our micro-services are written in Typescript along with our front-end apps, batch jobs, lambdas and CI code so there's opportunities to get involved in the full stack. If you have ideas for other tech as long as it makes sense to use it the team won't stop you.

Hive's Roam policy is great - it allows you to work outside of the UK, subject to in-country due diligence. We've had engineers work from Europe, America, Asia, and Australia. Personally I got to live my dream and go explore South East Asia, Australia and New Zealand 😍.

Everybody at Hive likes to move fast and we hate process for process' sake. We're all expected to be autonomous and to drive the work we're doing to completion. If you're wanting to just be given work to do by your manager day in day out Hive HR probably isn't the place for you.
