The property sharing market has exploded in the last few years, driven primarily by Airbnb. Host management services are trying to make it easier for consumers that want to let out their properties, by taking the hassle of it away charging a cut of the rental fees.
Formerly known as Airsorted, Houst was one of the first companies in this space, which enabled it to expand quickly and capture a large portion of the market. Hostmaker, a rival to Houst, went bust and Houst acquired a portion of Hostmaker’s non-UK operations, mainly in France, Portugal, Spain, and Italy, as well as the UK accounts.
These are operationally complicated businesses, so scaling will be challenging. After a difficult few years, re-establishing itself and moving forward will be the main focus of the company. Houst is currently active in 23 cities with more than 8,000 listings.

From the moment I began at Houst I was thrown into the deep end and loved it! The responsibility even junior employees are given is just so unique and is the type of stuff that it would take years usually, in other places to be involved in. You get a real sense of ownership, autonomy and you can directly see the impact you are making. As a business we have a relatively flat hierarchy and if you have a great idea, the data and rationale to back it up, the general attitude is "get cracking". Our CEO actively encourages people at every level of the business to share what is working and what isn't. Every view and opinion is valued, no matter what level you are.

The business proposition is unique and is a great solution in the proptech space. The business is constantly evolving and enhancing the core product and is currently undergoing an exciting new growth phase. Innovation plays such a big part in day to day life at Houst. One of the KPIs for our current quarter's OKRs is failed experiments which I just love! At Houst you are actively encouraged to try new things, problem solve and truly make your mark!

Ridiculously nice people! I can genuinely say I have never been at a business with just so many lovely, fun, creative and energetic people! They have absolutely nailed hiring clearly. There are no silos, everyone interacts and socialises with people outside of their team and departments, pretty much every office day at least a few people go to the pub directly next door at the end of the day and everyone is always welcome. There is only one major downside, the people are just so great, I think I'll find it impossible to ever leave!

My manager is brilliant. I know I am always able to be completely honest. He asks my opinion and I know he wants to know what I truly think. It is heavily encouraged that everyone in the company propose new ideas, however whacky they may be. It's a great culture for self and professional progression!

I've made some wonderful friends in my first six months at Houst. They must have a monopoly on the loveliest people in London (not sure how I slipped through the cracks.. don't tell anyone) But seriously, I've worked at more than seven companies before starting at Houst and never have I been welcomed with such open arms. It's really special.
