Our take
The concept of the 'internet of things (IoT) presents opportunities for smart devices and apps to communicate within an interconnected data web. However, infrastructure to facilitate this for the average developer is non-existent due to costs and complexity, with current communication remaining exclusive to tech giants such as Google, Apple, and Amazon.
IFTTT has created a platform for developers to easily write scripts that connect smart apps and devices together. This is achieved by providing accessible API tools that provide simple and well-documented IoT frameworks to be used by programmers.
Many startups are concerning their product development with integration with the concept of IoT, so IFTTT’s approach to making this easily accessible is a smart move. The company has over 14 million registered consumers resulting in 75 million applications since launch, including inter-connected software from Twitter, BMW, and IBM.
