Imperfect Foods aims to reduce annual food waste in the US by 40% and build a more sustainable food system.

Grocery stores throw away misshapen fruit and vegetables every day, despite many consumers not being concerned with these defects. This is widely due to a perceived lack of interest, strict quality assurance, and no dedicated platform to selling imperfect fruit and veg.
Imperfect Foods provide a subscription delivery service for 'ugly' fruit and vegetables, allowing customers to choose specific items for a weekly or biweekly delivery. The company partner up with grocery stores to ensure no misshapen product goes to waste, offering it to their subscribers at around 30% less than the usual price.
In 2020 alone, Imperfect Foods saved more than 200 million pounds of produce from being wasted. The startup’s marketing strategy for ‘ugly’ fruit and veg is a smart one, recognizing that the average customer would happily purchase it in exchange for saving money and preventing food waste.
