Our take

InCommon is a charitable organisation that brings generations together through its intergenerational programs to build more connected, age-friendly communities. With inclusivity at the heart of everything this charity does, its range of programs and age groups empowers people to connect, learn, support, and grow together.

The company partners with schools, youth groups, housing associations, and various community organisations, resulting in over 1,500 connections and thousands of volunteer hours. Initially founded in 2017 as a social enterprise company, it has since restructured to become a registered charity, forming a new legal entity InCommon Foundation. Looking forward, InCommon is focused on further improving its structure to deliver widespread impact.

  • We Believe In Purpose - Making a meaningful contribution to the world is important to our wellbeing. We believe that older people have lots to give and our programmes offer real opportunities to make a difference
  • We Value Delight - We all need a little delight in our lives. We want our programmes to feel special for everyone taking part
  • We Are All Learners - Learning enriches life, at every age. Our programmes are educational experiences; we hope everyone learns something new (and we always do!)
  • We Make Things Happen Together - Our programmes thrive on energy. Everyone has a role to play and we can only create beautiful things when everyone gets involved
  • We Include Everyone - It’s really important to us that no one gets left out. We work hard to remove barriers to our programmes and help everyone, of every age, take part as much as they can

Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at InCommon

  • We have a co-created anti-prejudice charter covering how we can show up in the areas of our programme, comms, team, partnerships and the wider charity sector
  • We hold bi-monthly anti-prejudice forums, which are a chance to dive deeper into a particular issue area, or reexamine part of InCommon's approach. Our last forum was about how to challenge prejudice during intergenerational sessions and previous topics have included money, disability and the refugee and asylum system. We encourage all team members to volunteer to host a forum so this work is shared across the team.
