Our take
Inflection AI is a young AI research company exploring the ways that humans and machines interact. Founded by DeepMind and LinkedIn co-founders, Inflection aims to eliminate the need for humans to simplify their instructions to machines, focussing on the complex and evolving LLM (Large Language Model) of AI development.
With substantial venture capital awarded in 2022 despite a noticeable drop in AI funding across the board, Inflection AI’s huge boost may come as a surprise to some. With the level of experience from both its founders and its Google and Meta-poached team, Inflection AI is embarking upon an area of research that is simultaneously lucrative and costly. LLM research uses a lot of power, but can be applied to many sectors, which is why Greylock Capital has been such a vital partner.
With calls from leading voices on the subject pleading for AI research to be stalled on account of the threats it poses, there may be more governmental red tape enforced around AI development over the next few years. As Inflection AI is at the forefront of LLM development, this would cost the well-funded company greatly.
