Our take

The Fem Tech category - technology typically focused on improving the lives of women through easier and improved menstrual cycle management - has boomed in recent years. Inne is one such startup, touting hormone-free, natural contraception.

To do this, Inne is uniquely relying on hardware - a ‘minilab’ - in their users’ homes that relies on saliva to tell users through an app about their ovulation or overall female health.

The startup has only recently launched the product with real users after years of working behind closed doors getting the biochemistry absolutely right for the end customer.

While the minilab is designed to be as easy to use as possible, the startup is still offering a product that involves more user-friction than purely software or app-based services like Clue or Natural Cycles. However, these products are under heavy fire for potentially misleading users, suggesting that Inne’s long-term bet on a quality, lab-based approach could be the winning strategy.
