Company mission

To save singles from superficial dating.

Our take

Jigsaw is a dating app seeking to upend the status quo by encouraging thoughtful conversations over quick swipes. Its founders were frustrated by the superficial dating behaviours promoted by existing platforms – which rely heavily on (often filtered) photographs.

The app places a jigsaw puzzle over faces so users will match based on chat, not just their photo. Exchanging messages with matches makes jigsaw pieces fall away, until users reveal the face. Taking this a step further, Jigsaw has recently banned images that had been filtered using Instagram and Snapchat in order to provide a more honest space.

The dating app space is intensely crowded – with dominant players like Bumble, Tinder and Hinge owning much of the market, and continuing to grow via acquisitions. Jigsaw's unique edge has already attracted many UK-based singles, but it will need to achieve a significant user base to compete with many of its larger rivals. Already live in London, the app has recently expanded to the US, and is planning on consolidating growth in this market.
