Just Insure is a user-based insurance startup looking to democratize access to car insurance. Many auto premiums are set according to discriminatory factors such as age and address, which can inflate a premium so prohibitively high that some drivers opt out of insurance altogether. In fact, cost is most frequently cited as the reason why over 10% of drivers across the US are uninsured.
Just Insure’s model looks set to change this. It offers pre-paid, 30 day liability insurance based solely on how well, and how far, a user drives. This should allow them to tap into a market of drivers previously frozen out by other premium calculation methods. Pre-paid coverage can be accessed for as little as $30, too, which could prove appealing to intermittent drivers.
The company are currently only available in Arizona, but have been expanding their coverage options. This could help them consolidate their product before a wider launch. With the usage-based insurance market seeing impressive growth, and expected to exceed a $100 billion global valuation by 2025, Just Insure could make real headway if they can carve out a solid niche.
