Company mission

Kula's mission is to help lawyers break free from corporate law firms, help lawyers build their own businesses, and help lawyers disrupt a 2000-year-old global profession.

Our take

Fresh off the back of their role in Y-combinator’s Winter ‘22 cohort, the team behind Kula are hoping to shake up the legal industry. Branded the “shopify for lawyers”, Kula is a platform designed to help automate the processes behind building a law firm, from sourcing clients and collaborators to automating call bookings and matter tracking.

There’s reports suggesting that, following the relative instability and high caseload of recent years, more Big Law practitioners than ever are eyeing up the chance to go independent. Kula’s bet is that by providing them the tools to do so more competitively, they can tempt lawyers out into what may well prove to be a growing and lucrative market.

Kula claim to offer a more sophisticated matching service for lawyers and clients than competitors like Legal Services Link and Lawyers on Demand, one that draws on ‘personal fit’ and availability as well as skillsets. Matching services across the board, from social networks to funding sources, are developing in the direction of making smarter and more granular recommendations - so in this sense, Kula is getting out ahead of the pack.
