Our take
The LOQBOX founders identified three key factors that drive financial exclusion: opportunity, capability and resilience. The company devised an ingenious way to empower those have been typically disenfranchised from financial services through a clever combination of financial education and managed lending to overcome these problems.
LOQBOX differs in that it offers an opportunity to grow savings whilst increasing users' credit score. Creating managed loans at 0% APR, LOQBOX and its sister company allow users to make monthly payments over the course of a year, the progress of which is reported to the Experian, Equifax and CallCredit, after which payments are returned to the user. Users leave with a strengthened credit score, money tucked away and, thanks to LOQBOX financial education platform, a greater knowledge of how to make their money go further.
LOQBOX is no charity, but an example of of FinTech being put to social use. Having rolled out successfully across the UK, LOQBOX is now going global: it has opened up its service to over 40 states in the US, and has recently partnered with Credit.com to facilitate this, with an eye on further expansion.
