Our take

L'Oréal is a global beauty business encompassing 36 brands that include the likes of Garnier, Giorgio Armani Beauty and L’Oréal Paris. Undeniably a powerhouse in the sector, it has made notable moves in recent years to highlight itself as an innovator in beauty tech as well.

Examples of these initiatives include the development of the world’s first handheld computerized makeup applicator, designed to help those with reduced motor skills to apply their makeup; as well as investing in AR that can suggest how to execute particular looks, and leveraging AI for better hair and scalp care.

With such strong roots from which to grow its beauty tech business, L'Oréal will likely continue to make strides in its research and development. It will be interesting to see what products and capabilities it showcases next, as well as which technologies consumers respond to.

Leadership

Has been with the company since 1987, beginning as Product Manager for Garnier. Previously General Manager of several divisions between 1998 and 2011, then President between 2011 and 2021, before ultimately becoming CEO.
