To leverage its innovative Spoke & Hub Technologies™ to provide a customer-centric, end-of-life solution for lithium-ion batteries, while creating a secondary supply of critical battery materials.
119% employee growth in 12 months
The demand for advanced lithium-ion batteries grew by over 500% between 2010 and 2020. Used to power devices ranging from mobile phones to electric vehicles, lithium-ion rechargeable batteries are increasingly powering our world. But there is a problem: this rapidly growing demand is centred around critical and scarce materials. Making lithium-ion batteries from scratch is not a viable long-term option. The world needs improved technology and supply chain innovations to better recycle these batteries.
This is where Li-Cycle comes in. The company provides recycling services for lithium-ion batteries. Via a low-cost, safe, and environmentally friendly process, Li-Cycle is able to recycle all types of lithium-ion batteries, with an unparalleled recovery rate of ≥95% of all materials.
Li-Cycle is not alone in this market and will face direct competition from the likes of Fortum, and breaking into some countries in the international sphere will pose challenges. However, Li-Cycle has seen a massive upwards trend in growth, and as market demand gets bigger it has consistently opened new facilities around the globe and has real potential to springboard toward further success.
