Luca is a learning platform providing K-12 education activities, student-tailored study paths, and gameified content to students in Spanish speaking markets. These materials cover both curricula and exam prep, and do so entirely from a digital platform - it's all part of Luca's mission to democratize digital education.
The year of Luca’s launch saw a substantial shakeup in K-12 education, in which the provision of virtual and complementary teaching resources became crucial. With many institutions grasping to meet the shortfall, startups like Luca were quick to step up to the plate - and were rewarded for their efforts. In Luca's case, it will no doubt have spurred on the rapid expansion it has demonstrated recently: the company now operates from offices in Madrid, Lisbon, and Mexico.
This means Luca is gaining traction in the European edtech market - and its timing could not be better. VC investment in this sector tripled between 2020 and 2021, and the proportion of edtech deals being made increased by around 10%. This means that although the company is still relatively new, Luca has a hot market to play for.
