Company mission

To protect the UK's people, economy and interests from overseas threats.

Our take

MI6, officially known as the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS), is responsible for gathering foreign intelligence to protect UK interests globally. It primarily focuses on espionage, counterterrorism and supporting allies to maintain national security.

While it was founded in 1909 to address growing concerns about German espionage, it has since evolved, expanding its scope to respond to new challenges, such as international terrorism, and cybersecurity. With this, its influence has grown, particularly in shaping global intelligence operations.

MI6's work is crucial in maintaining the UK's safety, supporting international law, and preventing global threats. In gathering intelligence abroad, it plays a significant role in promoting democracy and protecting prosperity, while being held accountable through rigorous oversight and legislation.
