Maple Finance

We are always tackling new problems in the web3 space that require new ways of thinking. Such as handling async UI states where transactions might take 5+ minutes to confirm, to developing using web3 libraries.

Since working at Maple I have learned to use the ethers and web3React libraries whilst integrating other web3 libraries such as Gnosis safe, I have built features which utilise BigNumber calculations. We have also been put through workshops to learn the xState directly with the creator of the library. You are also entitled to a subscription for an online learning platform.

Building a protocol that has a complex balance of capital efficiency, gas efficiency, modularity, composability, all while trying to remain minimally opinionated. Working towards 3 separate composabile protocols for generally collateralized loans, pooling of assets for investing/liquidity, and general backstop insurance (for loans or pools).

Consistent and honest technical debate about the specific engineering problems and solutions. It's awesome to watch everyone bring their own ideas and proofs of concept to the table, critique the solutions, and borrow ideas to result in new elegant and efficient solutions.

We're always learning and developing new and better ways to be more capital and gas efficient, as well as be more composable. This includes staying abreast of proxy contract mechanisms and the latest in DeFi and flash loan mechanisms. Also, we use HEVM/dapp-tools for all testing, which is a very powerful tool to thoroughly tests smart contracts, from unit tests, integration tests, and end-to-end tests.

Having demonstrated a level of commitment and competence, I enjoy a high degree of autonomy in terms of my schedule, what I'm working on and how to carry out my tasks.

We have strong funding, a great team, and are executing well in one of the most promising areas of DeFi – undercollateralized lending. I'm enjoying our transition from a scrappy, little-known startup to a recognized player in the space, the growth in our team and evolution of our technology.

I've learned a great deal from my teammembers – both in engineering and beyond – and also have access to paid platforms and trainings from senior engineers. We also have the freedom to experiment with and implement new technologies and design patterns.

Working at Maple has been extremely rewarding and challenging. We have built a sizable business in less than a year and continue to grow rapidly. We are solving new problems and using new tooling in the Web3 space and have to deliver features on a small team. Everyone member of the team is immensely important and you will acquire the most in demand skills of the entire software engineering industry, if not possibly the free world.

I joined Maple and we started building a new project that within a year achieved incredible success. This has given me the opportunity to gain skills in the DeFi space with a project that has found market fit. Success for Maple has brought new and talented teammates and the opportunity to increase my technical and managerial capabilities.

We are working with the latest tech stack for DeFi and Web3 ethereum. Solidity, TypeScript, DappTools, Web3, Graph Protocol, IPFS, and other technologies that are a standard tool kit for building a successful protocol.

Having flexible working hours is great because I can easily manage working and other life commitments. A good example is being able to go to the gym right in the middle of the afternoon, when it's the most empty, and while it seems silly, it's the sort of thing that contributes to a way more relaxed day.

Maple is on track to becoming a leading protocol in the cypto/blockchain ecosystem. Everyday more and more people know and are interested about us, which drives more growth.

The smart contract team is one of the best in the space hands down. It's quite difficult to find one really good senior developer, let alone build a whole team with +4 of them.

In Maple you can organize the day as you wish, you simply have to attend the agreed meetings and maintain good communication with the team about the status of your tasks.

At Maple we work with the latest technologies, we build a product that does not exist on the market and that implies challenges that I have never faced before. Our product improves day by day and that means looking for new solutions that you have never considered before.

I have never before felt so valued in a company. At Maple they value your work and commitment with words but more importantly with contract improvements. In addition, you can choose between being paid with crypto (USDC) or on standard way.

Since joining Maple I have been given the opportunity to leverage my existing skill-sets while progressively taking on new responsibilities. The Project is growing quickly and team members are given the opportunity to take on new tasks as they begin to master their existing role.

At Maple, one of our core values is taking ownership. I have been able to own projects and am trusted to work independently in order to solve problems and drive results for the business.

In my time at Maple I’ve been supported and given the feedback necessary to grow in my role. We do daily stand-ups to sync and unblock work and also maintain a routine of consistent 1:1’s to help reflect on lessons from the week and continue to upskill me in my role.

Whilst Crypto and DeFi is an exciting field and you know you are in a sector, at a time well ahead of its greatest days. It's exciting to see what the next quarter will bring, let alone the next year or even 5 years.

There are 4 core values that we subscribe to at Maple, Personal Ownership, Focused Execution, User Prioritisation, Innovative Mindset. We make sure what we do or are planning to do is evaluated against these. In hiring, personal quarterly feedback sessions, OKR's. They are very helpful tools to keep us all culturally and professionally aligned. Something vital in a fully remote organisation. We have a weekly "All Hands" call each week. This is where, as many, if not all the Maple team get together and get an overview of the week past and ahead from all the departments. It's a really valuable touch point to know how what we are all doing comes together in the big picture. We also take this opportunity to highlight times in that week that an individual or team has displayed one or some of those values. A "tip of the hat".

You just know the quality of the people in the team the moment you meet them. They are organised, confident in their own value, able to have their ideas challenged and even welcome it.
