Mashroom is for landlords and tenants who are tired of a lettings industry that refuses to evolve with the times. Driven by technology with an emphasis on human interaction, Mashroom cuts costs and void periods, and offers faster tenancies by connecting the landlords and tenants directly.

Our take

Mashroom drastically cuts the cost of finding new tenants, charging just a flat fixed upfront fee. Furthermore, their properties are advertised on Rightmove, Zoopla and PrimeLocation, meaning the most eyes possible will be on their houses.

Mashroom's app simplifies the landlord experience. Through it, they can easily organise viewings, talk to current and prospective tenants via the in-app chat, and negotiate, decline or accept offers.

Tenants also benefit from the process. By teaming up with the landlord and carrying out viewings, they can earn one week's worth of rent back, as well as obtaining a further reward if they find an incoming tenant once they leave. This benefits the tenant, whilst also removing the need of a potentially costly letting agency for the landlord.

The reward system for tenants could be particularly effective in cities with a large university population, where students are often motivated to save money whilst also knowing a large pool of prospective tenants.
